Northland property with own private beach activates buyers

A Northland property starring its own private beach and enviable holiday home located close to renowned Sandy Bay, is attracting unprecedented attention since launching to the market for sale in Bayleys’ 30th anniversary edition of its flagship Waterfront portfolio.

Hidden away from sight at the end of a 3-kilometre private road, the 6ha coastal retreat in McAuslin Road, Whananāki fronts a sweeping white sand cove that sits between two headlands and is not accessible to the public, unless they approach by boat.

It is this factor that sets it apart from other Northland waterside properties according to waterfront specialist John Greenwood who is fielding considerable enquiry for the coastal property as the Waterfront portfolio makes its way into potential buyers’ hands.

With strong activity out of the Auckland market and interested parties flying in from regional New Zealand for viewings, Greenwood said the forward-thinking current owners were well-ahead of their time when developing the property.

“I sold the rural block to the Auckland-based vendors 22 years ago as bare land and I take my hat off to them for realising their vision for a multi-generational holiday home that optimises the land’s prime water frontage.

“The residence has a contemporary feel that’s perfect for a seaside escape and it works well for different generations.

“The family has had two decades’ of summers at this idyllic spot, however as they no longer use the property as much as they’d like, it’s time for a lucky new owner to capitalise on their foresight and hard work.”

Greenwood says the house is meticulously designed for relaxed living, with multiple sheltered decks and an outdoor fireplace providing all-weather entertainment space.

The primary residence contains the main living areas and a modern kitchen, along with the retreat-like master bedroom and ensuite.

Linked to this section via a covered walkway is a guest “pod” with three individual bedrooms and a shared bathroom, providing comfortable sleeping accommodation for up to 10 people.

“Summer holidays never looked better – pick up supplies in Whangārei on your way, enjoy the high-tide sandy swimming beach, explore the rock pools at low tide, and keep your eyes peeled for occasional visits from dolphins or whales,” said Greenwood.

“Get a boat in the water with a tractor or consider a Sealegs craft to head out to Elizabeth Reef or the Poor Knights, or just throw a line out from a kayak straight off the beach.”

“This pocket of coastline is a Northland treasure with some exceptional recreational offerings including surfing and whale watching at Sandy Bay, walking the longest footbridge in the Southern Hemisphere connecting north and south Whananāki, and coastal.

“Where else can you find a property with its own totally private beach? Let alone less than three hours’ drive from Auckland.

“This is the very best of east coast Northland.”

The property is for sale by negotiation.
