Hunting and farming opportunity

**A sprawling rural property featuring grazing, bushland and a three bedroom home offers buyers a true chance to live off the land, Bayleys salespeople say. **

The 524.9ha (more or less) landholding at 2488 and 2533 Putere Road overlooks northern Hawkes Bay, with abundant hunting opportunities on the farm.

Bayleys Country Sales Specialist Tony Rasmussen says the property is offered to the market at a time of global uncertainty, as the experience of the pandemic and ensuing lockdown restrictions have led Kiwis to reassess their lifestyle options.

“During the pandemic, the threat of disruption to supply chains and food scarcity saw people gravitate towards self-sufficiency by sourcing and cultivating their own food supplies.

“With cost-of-living pressures persistent, that reason has shifted, but the movement remains the same – Kiwis are enjoying the chance to live off the land.

“There are red deer, pigs, and goats on the property, and native bush walks along established farm tracks. A new owner may wish to keep this as their own hunter’s paradise or leverage interest and explore options for a commercial hunting or tourist experience,” he says.

Rasmussen is marketing the property with colleague Monty Monteith for sale by auction scheduled at 3:00 pm on Friday, 15th September 2023 (unless sold prior).

Held in two titles, the property at 2488 Putere Road spans 2.023ha and can be purchased separately as a retreat or family home.

It is enclosed by deer fencing and features a three bedroom home, an implement shed/two stand woolshed, deer shed, sheep and cattle yards.

The property at 2533 Putere Road features 522.94ha of undulating farmland and regenerating native bush, in addition to various sheep and cattle yard improvements.

Bayleys Country Sales Specialist Monty Monteith says the larger property is presently utilised as grazing and native bush. It features an accessible network of ATV tracks and pumice country, allowing reliable all-weather access.

“Predominantly medium-hill country, reaching an altitude of 755m above sea level, the property receives between 1,500 and 1,900mm of rainfall annually, with generally free-draining soil ensuring year-round utilisation.

“The property is divided into 20 main paddocks – five on the title at 2488 Putere Road and 15 on the other. The majority of paddocks are large, lending themselves for use as extensive grazing with long rotation.

“Predominantly native bush, including Manuka and Kanuka scrub, there is enough grazing land available for approximately 80 cattle and 100 ewes.

“There is further opportunity to plant clear carbon areas or extract honey,” Monteith says.

The property currently generates income from a radio transmission lease between the farm and DL Technical Associates.

Set to expire in March 2024, there is an option to extend the lease for a period of three years.

Additionally, Gisborne Net has an internet tower on the farm, providing free internet service to the property as a reciprocal arrangement.

Approximately 100km north of Napier Airport, and with Putere Primary School a short drive away, the home features a private yet accessible position ensconced between world-class trout fishing, hiking and hunting.

“It’s a true lifestyler’s paradise, proximate to the Te Urewera National Park, with upside commercial opportunity from the established grazing and regenerating native bush,” Monteith says.
